At BFR, we serve in several slum communities in Africa working to provide avenues of opportunity to those in need. We work to empower men and women with handmade trades while partnering that with a need in the community such as feeding or education. We also take mission teams 4-10 times a year to serve within these territories in areas of counsel, encouragement, mentorships, education and much more.
Take a look at some of the areas we are currently serving within.
wings of life school
Located in the largest slum in Africa, Kibera, BFR works alongside this school implementing feeding, wellness and education programs. We empower the head teacher, Priscilla Macharia, to coordinate our Papers of Peace empowerment projects in Kenya. This program has provided over 20 ladies with a sustainable income in Kibera, feeds the children twice a day at Wings of Life and pays a portion of the teacher’s salaries. This school has no formal sanitation system, no electricity in classrooms and is in constant need of repairs. The children in Kibera and at Wings typically suffer neglect and abuse and our teams and Peace to the Ground Liaisons work to counsel, encourage and mentor them.
pehucci children’s home
An orphanage and school in Ruai, Kenya, dedicated to providing children an education that challenges them to succeed in their situation. Majority of children in this school do not have any family at all and need consistency and encouragement. We help strengthen this area by implementing our wellness and mentor programs, serving with mission teams and sponsoring children, as needed, to a bright and successful future.
A school located in the Maasai Mara, in Kenya, where children from the nomadic Maasai tribes come to start a future. In this culture education is not valued as they are brought up to care for their livestock and follow them from land to land. Children are married off early and females go up against a circumcision custom. Siana School is trying to change that by providing them with an opportunity for education. Women from this tribe have joined the BFR empowerment program to try and help create a better future for their children. Proceeds from their gorgeous line not only provide them with an income but are matched and placed in an education fund.
smile africa ministries:
We serve alongside this ministry located in Tororo, Uganda. They are dedicated to feeding and housing children in destitute situations and rehabilitating neglected and widowed women. There are over 400 children that come to smile daily and 40 women looking for a chance to start over. BFR empowers their widows with our Papers of Peace program which helps them be self sufficient and feed the children at Smile.. Our teams work to counsel, encourage and mentor the children within Smile’s organization.
